Baseball is a game that transcends time. It has no equal. It is not finite.

We play on a diamond. Not a field. Not a court. A diamond. It’s the sound of a wooden bat as it strikes a round, leather-covered ball. It’s the feeling of eating a hot dog with your family, the family you were born into and the family you chose. It’s taking someone to their first big game. It’s a way to pass the time with those we love. A pastime.

To play it is to find a piece of yourself that we all seek: the part that doesn’t give up when things get hard, that supports others through adversity, that stands victorious in the knowledge that you left it all on the field. Baseball is a game, yes. But really, it's a place we go to find the things that matter most. Peace, hope, love, joy. You’ll find them all at a ballgame.

While there are many theories about how and where baseball started, none of them provide conclusive evidence of how the game came to be.

The US was forged around baseball. The game, and its precursors, have been a key part of the country since its earliest days.
